NRS DT SACCO LEADS THE WAY IN ENVIRONMENTAL CSR AT ONDIRI WETLAND

By Marion Wavinya Muthoka On Monday, November 13TH, 2023, officially declared by the Government of Kenya as National Tree Growing Day. The team from NRS DT SACCO joined hands with the Ondiri Wetland Conservation group and the local community in a tree-planting exercise at Ondiri Wetland, Kiambu County. The nationwide event, aimed at promoting environmental conservation and supporting the country’s reforestation agenda, brought together Kenyans from all walks of life to plant trees in their respective regions. At Ondiri Wetland, NRS DT SACCO proudly contributed tree seedlings and participated actively in the half-day exercise that ran from 8:00 a.m. to midday. The initiative formed part of the Sacco’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitment to sustainability and community development. Staff members in attendance included Kikuyu Branch Manager Monica Kimisio, ICT Manager Thomas Ngenye, Accountant Cornelious Murage, and Credit Officer Titus Mwenda, alongside enthusiastic Sacco members and local residents. Speaking during the event, ICT Manager Thomas Ngenye encouraged continued participation in environmental activities, stating, “Tupande miti, tujitegemee,”, a call for self-reliance through environmental responsibility.
Accountant Cornelious Murage added, “This CSR helped NRS contribute to the society,” highlighting the Sacco’s dedication to giving back to the community beyond its financial services. The Ondiri Wetland Conservation team appreciated the Sacco’s partnership, noting that such collaborations not only restore local ecosystems but also inspire community members to take an active role in protecting natural resources.
By taking part in the National Tree Growing Day, NRS DT SACCO reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability, community empowerment, and national development. The event underscored the Sacco’s belief that lasting change begins with simple actions, one tree at a time.
